We don’t just want to make soap. We want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

It all began with a desire to create a business not only to support our livelihoods but to also be change agents in the world. We believe that if everyone in the world contributes even if just a little bit, HUGE changes for the better will happen!

From that position of wanting a different way of earning a living and a desire for change in the world the idea for The Jane Doe Soap Company came along. Why Soap? Why “Jane Doe”? Well! Although ubiquitous and often taken for granted, soap is not just a simple vanity product, a must in one’s self care routine but a much needed global resource. It literally has significantly reduced worldwide death rates due to it’s power of killing disease causing germ and bacteria. Having access to soap can significantly make a difference in the trajectory of a person’s life and a society as a whole.

Ok! But why “Jane Doe”? We’ve been life long advocates of women rights. We’ve experienced first hand how sexual violence can have severely negative consequences in the lives of those who experience it. Through the years as we listened to woman after woman recount their stories of horrific sexual violence a common thread among the many became evident. The common thread was that of a feeling of being “dirty” after the abuse has taken place and a desire to feel “clean” afterwards. Thus we thought what better vehicle to spread our message of equality and woman empowerment than soap.

Our mission is to give solace during one of women's most intimate moments..........while taking a shower. Whether it's to wash off the stress of the day or the heaviness of a traumatic experience, we want women to feel comforted by our soap bar. Most importantly, we want them to know that they're not alone.

That’s our story! That’s how we came to be! We ask you to join us in our journey of making the world a better and safer place for all!

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER - Kathleen C. Castro

A little about me………I was born in the Bronx to a Dominican immigrant single mother. We moved to Lowell, Ma at the age of six to be closer to family and escape NYC’s evermore expensive cost of living. A decision that has positively shaped who I am today. I seriously believe that my life would be completely different had my mother stayed in NYC and perhaps not for the better. While in Lowell I went through their great public school system first attending Pawtucket Elementary, than Wang Middle, Lowell High School, and finally University of Massachusetts Lowell graduating with a BA in Psychology in 2010.

After graduation wanting to pursue a Ph D. in Clinical Psychology, I opted to get some real world experience rather than going straight to graduate school. I first worked at a group home for women with borderline personality disorder, a disorder often times rooted in childhood trauma specifically childhood sexual trauma. I also worked with other mentally unstable individuals within the community ensuring they were following proper treatment plans. After some time at the home, I decided to pursue another opportunity at a state hospital in their locked psychiatric facility. While at the hospital, I learned a lot about how medical institutions manage mental illness and the mentally ill. It was a very eye opening experience.

Ultimately deciding that the mental health field was not for me, I ended up working in sales within the Tech sector. Working as an Account Executive for companies like Goji (formerly Consumer United), Citrix, Extreme Networks, Lakeside Software, Airtable, etc. Working in tech sales has been an overall fun experience but often times painful having to at times manage the rearing of corporate America’s ugly head!

As I leave my corporate career behind, I’m extremely excited to start a new chapter as soap maker and world change agent!
