What To Do In The Event Of Sexual Assault

1. Ensure That You’re Safe: Please be aware of your surroundings, if you’re not in a safe location please take steps to get yourself in a safe space.

2. Call The National Sexual Assault Hotline: If you have access to a phone please dial 1-800-656-HOPE (4673). They will provide you with additional resources and direct you to take additional steps.

3. Get Medical Help: Try to find the nearest emergency service center near you.

4. Do a “Rape Kit”: A “Rape Kit” as is commonly known is the Sexual Assault Forensic Exam. In a safe medical setting, medical personnel will collect DNA and other forensic evidence from your body. It is important NOT to wash your body after a sexual assault to ensure that forensic evidence can be collected. Please keep in mind that you do not have to persecute if you don’t want to but should you change your mind at a later date there will be evidence to do so. Please do additional research as to what the statute of limitation for sexual assault reporting is in your state and/or country.

5. Heal Love Rise! Know that what happened wasn’t your fault! If you can please seek counseling and/or surround yourself with a support network that will help you heal and rise above the trauma. You will feel safe again in your body and you will rise above it all!
